In an attempt to create more interest among students in the field of dark matter, NISER is organizing its 2nd dark matter day event on 31st October, 2019. The event comprises of an introductory dark matter video, followed by talks by an invited expert speaker from IIT Guwahati and an in-house speaker to discuss the prospects of doing dark matter research at NISER. We will have some demonstration experiments that explain various dark matter concepts in an interactive way. The program would be attended by about 180-200 college students(10+2 and first year undergrads) from in and around Bhubaneshwar and Jatni, which is where NISER is located. The schedule is as follows (all timings in Indian Standard Time):
10:00 AM to 10:15 AM : Welcome the audience
10:15 AM to 10:45 AM : An introductory video on the dark matter problem
10:45 AM to 11:30 AM : Talk by an expert (Dr. Subhaditya Bhattacharya, IIT Guwahati, India)
11:30 AM to 12:00 PM : Talk on NISER’s involvement in dark matter research (Vijay Iyer, NISER, India)
12:00 PM to 12:30 PM : Ask a scientist (Interactive session with the audience)
12:30 PM to 12:40 PM : Conclusion and vote of thanks
Demonstration experiments to explain various aspects of dark matter search will start along with lunch and expected to go on till 5 PM.
