THE DARK SIDE OF THE UNIVERSE – THEORIES AND VISIONS
A scientific-philosophical talk between two physicists and a writer about dark matter, dark energy and the role of Man in the Universe.
Danilo Babusci (INFN-LNF physicist) Alfonso Berardinelli (literary critic and essayist) Fabio Bossi (INFN-Lecce physicist)
Moderator: Vincenzo Napolano (INFN Communication Office)
Among the most troubling problems for physicists, the nature of dark matter is certainly at the top of the list. The urgency of the problem lies in the numbers: this elusive matter accounts for around a quarter of the Universe total energy, an enormous quantity when compared to the tiny 5% made of ordinary matter and radiation. What about the rest? It’s dark energy: something that is making the Universe expansion accelerate and that, probably, heads the list of problems. The theories formulated to explain this “dark” side of the Universe and the visions about the role of Man in the Universe suggested by these discoveries will be debated in a chat between two physicists and a writer, moderated by a science communicator.
Of interest for general public, students and teachers of both humanities and scientific disciplines.
